July 2010, part 2

‘Start Smart Soccer’
Wednesdays at 6:00 we’d head to the park in the 95+ sun and Laura would practice kicking and dribbling and blocking. We only forgot water the first time! She loved running around and kicking the ball and, of course, getting a treat afterwards. She always asked for two extra to bring home for Eden and Ryan. These pictures are from the final game playing against the 6:30pm class. She scored an awesome goal in the far right picture with her super soccer kick.
July 2010…part 1
We hosted a barbecue with Lanna and Scott and their crew this year for the 4th (really the 5th) of July. After hamburgers we set up the waterslide and pool in the backyard. The kids, especially the little boys, loved sliding down and making a big splash. The grownups sat in the shade and visited before it got too hot.
A new little cousin!
Jessica Joe Schwartz was born on Monday, July 12th. We went and visited her a week later. She is a little sweetie! The girls got to hold her, and I was really surprised by how interested Ryan was. He kept wanting to get her a blanket or a diaper, and followed me around while I was holding her saying, ‘baby! baby!’ The Schwartzes have had a rough few weeks since little Jessica was born though. Allie broke her arm and had to have surgery, and Sarah had to be readmitted into the hospital twice; all in the month since Jessica was born.

June 2010
Laura had her first piano recital. Her teacher combined recitals with my violin students and another violin teacher so it was a nice sized group. Laura got a little nervous, but did a great job! She played Donkey Serenade and she and I played a duet called Little Things. After we got done she didn’t know what to do and I whispered for her to bow. Just as the clapping died down she bobbed a little curtsy and everyone laughed. Ryan was all over the place and Eden wouldn’t hold still, but I hope this was the first of many recitals for our family.
The first weekend in June the Staffords came down to Utah for their summer vacation. They stayed in a local hotel, my Mom and Dad came down and stayed with us, and the Schwartzes came over from Logan and stayed at Nate’s brother’s house. We all went to the zoo, the children’s museum, and Lagoon in one weekend. It was crazy fun!
Laura’s last day of school was the Friday morning we went to the zoo so Brent stayed home with Ryan and Eden and I went by ourselves. I loved being able to be there with just her. Eden and I were the last ones to leave every exhibit because she just wanted to sit and watch them. Classic observant Eden. I wish I knew what was going on in her little mind sometimes.
In the afternoon Brent, Laura, Ryan and my parents met us at the Tree house museum in Ogden. The kids played school, sang war songs with Grandpa in the teepee, drove the fire truck, chewed on toys, made woven baskets in the art garden and had a blast being with all of their cousins.
The next morning my Mom and I went yardsaling (yes that is the correct term), and them we all headed to Lagoon. My Mom was wonderful and spent the day with Ryan and baby Addison at our house. I’m sure they had a much better time there than they would at Lagoon. It was a fun day, my girls were a little hesitant about the rides, but after a little bit they warmed up and had a great time. Their favorite was the helicopters that you could make go up and down. We went to Lagoon-a-Beach (it was a little too cold for that though), and then spent the evening riding more rides and eating junk food. We took this family picture right when it was getting dark, about three minutes afterward Laura fell off of the raised sidewalk around the tree and scratched her face up and cut her lip and got a bloody nose. She was hysterical and we went home afterward.
On Sunday we had a barbecue at our house and the cousins played up the girls room for the afternoon. We were all tired and ready to recoup from our vacation!

May 2010
Laura graduated from Kindergarten this month. These pictures are from her music concert that all the
parents were invited to. Laura says her favorite things about kindergarten were: Her teacher Ms. Tran,
her friends (Lanna, Naomi, Annie, and Kaden), library, and well everyting!
A beautiful trip to Grandma Geniel’s. We love to get out the kites and play on the swing set.
And another weekend at Grandma and Grandpa Tew’s. We haven’t been up to Rexburg since Christmas!
We played outside and had a great barbecue.
Maren and I took the kids to the bouncy castles and to the farmer’s market where we almost lost Kate!
Ack! This boy is so stinkin’ cute!
Eden loves to paint very serious pieces of artwork for hours. I have loved getting to spend a few hours
with just my Edee while Laura’s at school and Ryan naps.
This one’s practicing for the runway. I have no idea where she picked up that coy look!

April 2010…
Easter Spring Day’
We spent Easter weekend in Rexburg this year. It was also General Conference and snowed the whole time we were there! But this didn’t stop us from having our Easter Spring Activities on Saturday in between sessions. The girls woke up to find that the Easter bunny had found us, even in the snow globe of Idaho, and brought them lots of fun goodies. Also he brought Eden egg sidewalk chalk, Laura a bug catching kit (I had talked to the big bunny and let him know I was tired of Laura using my tupperware to catch spiders outside), and Ryan found little boats in his basket. Also that crafty bunny made the girls new minky pillowcases, but Laura figured out that he must have snuck into our sewing room and taken the fabric to make them! I love their innocence:)Also we dyed eggs with our Stafford cousins (forgot to take a picture!), had an easter egg hunt in Grandma Martha’s front room, and played with Copper, the new puppy. The girls even played outside in my parent’s great backyard, even though we didn’t bring any snow clothes.
Our way home on Monday was delayed because Brent couldn’t find his wallet and the van keys were missing! But both were found eventually. Little Kate remembered having seen his wallet behind one of the couches in the basement. Hmmm, how did it get there? The world may never know! We hit a major snow storm on our way home and had a tense ride home, but we made it safely after a 5 hr. drive. Easter spring day, my foot. Maybe we’lltry again in a few months.
Roy Complex 5K
April 10th, 2010
After a year and a half of saying I was going to do it, I finally ran my first 5K! Hurray for me! I almost didn’t do it because all of my friends backed out, and did I mention it was 40 degrees! But I’m so glad I accomplished my goal. I’m not a runner, but have been getting into it with encouragement from my marathon running hubbie. I ran the whole thing, came in at 27 minutes, a personal best, and Brent and the kids were there at the finish line to cheer me on!
