Billibed Blues

*sigh* Here we go again. Ryan had his newborn check up this morning, which I scheduled a day early because we were concerned about his jaundice levels. Both of the girls had jaundice so we're a little more proactive and I'm glad because his levels were quite high. 20.2 Four years ago Laura had to go back to the hospital when her levels were about the same. But technology has advanced so instead of being readmitted, thank goodness, we have this double bank of billi lights to bring his levels down. So we'll keep him on it and hopefully only have to do this for a few more days.

First Bath

We gave Ryan his first sponge bath on Thursday afternoon. Laura was really interested in helping me with the washcloths, and Eden woke up from her nap and wandered in about half way through. Both girls were quite curious about his 'boy parts' being different. Laura wanted to know if they were going to fall off. It was good to be able to get that discussion over with. Ryan didn't seem to mind us discussing his anatomy, but wasn't too pleased with being cold and wet.Afterward he was so cuddly and soft, there's nothing softer than a newborn right after a bath.

Laura's comments:

'Oh, he's so cute!'

'Now we need to have another boy so he can have a brother!'

After seeing me nurse and explaining that it was 'mommy's milk':

'Oh, is that magic?'

Eden's first reaction:

'He needs to go home'

uhoh...

Lucky for us baby Ryan was smart and had brought a soft beany-baby type kitty for each of the girls as a peace offering. They were thrilled. They also loved getting to hold him for the first time.

Home again...

Right after Delivery

First, I have to say that was the best hospital stay we've had. After everything settled down from the delivery things went very smoothly. Baby Ryan was terrific in the hospital; knock-on-wood. He slept most of the time and we've gotten things under control in the nursing department. And though not living around family has it's major drawbacks it was nice to be able to spend so much time sleeping and bonding with our new baby without visitors. McKayDee was a great hospital to stay in. The nurses were wonderful, you could order food from a menu any time, and the view from our room was fantastic. I'm glad to be home, but I'm sure going to miss having the new-born nursery at about 2:00am tonight!

We came home this afternoon and after getting Ryan and I settled he drove to Salt Lake and picked up the girls who were staying at Aunt Lanna's house. A thousand thankyou's to Lanna and Scott! I don't know what we would have done without you!

Introducing Ryan Paul Beattie, born on August 26th, 2008 at 11:27pm. He weighs 7 lbs. 10 ounces, and is 21 inches long. We're resting and recouping at the hospital, and are happy to be on the other side of the delivery process:)

Pictures from the wedding

Ellen's wedding was wonderful. This is what my mom wrote on our family blog: 'The wedding ceremony took place in the Rexburg Idaho Temple and was absolutely wonderful. The Sealer is a friend of our family and presented a great message for El and Stoddard and the rest of us. Stoddard's mother had a fantastic salad luncheon prepared at their church house. If any of you need a great luncheon idea this is the one to do. Even the little nieces agreed it was great. After the lunch Paul and I rushed home and started setting up the reception. It was hot and the wind picked up. We couldn't keep the tablecloths on the tables, the centerpieces fell over many times and it made thing in general a mess. The photographer came, no one was ready. The bride had to have her hair and makeup redone, the mother of the bride was rushing around getting the refreshments packed to the basement-ready for the wonderful ladies of her book club who took over serving for her so she could take a cold shower and then discovered that her dress needed pressing, the mother of the groom had made the cake and was getting it finished and set up, the nieces finally got to wear their dresses but were worried that they wouldn't get to play outside in them and were leading a revolt, the father of the bride looked terrific in his freshly cleaned suit and the groom just smiled. Then....the wind quit, the cake was lit, the parents lined up and the bride and groom smiled on. It turned out to be a lovely evening with lots of friends and family. And when the sun set we had fireworks!

36+ weeks

Woohoo. We just keep growing, and growing, and growing...

Chillin' in Idaho

So we've been in Idaho for most of a week and have such a great time. I really debated coming, but I'm so glad we did. For the most part I've felt great and the girls have had such a great time running around Grandma's backyard, picking raspberries, playing in the sandbox, and kind of splashing in the little pool. I love hanging out with my sisters, especially since Ellen is getting married on Tuesday and moving to Bosie!

Yesterday we loaded up the girls and headed to Smith Park for lunch. What says Rexburg more than that!

35 Weeks, and hangin' in there

So i know i haven't really posted lately, and mostly it's just because we haven't been doing anything very interesting. I'm off bedrest (hip, hip, hurray!) and am supposed to be taking it easy. I ventured out this morning with the girls to Ross and after half an hour I was pooped. So home we came for PBJ sandwiches. But I have to say we have been relatively healthy, thank goodness, and relaxing. I'm really looking forward to going to Idaho this weekend and staying until Ellen's wedding, it'll be nice to have a distraction and change of scenery. So, I hope you are all doing well and thank you for being my friends:)
